Comiso

half day tour – up to 4 hours

The town of Comiso, situated in a hilly district, is the birthplace of the writer Bufalino. It has a 18th century look with beautiful buildings and artworks. The city tour starts from Piazza Fonte Diana with the neoclassical fountain fed by the same waters that in Roman times were used for the Roman thermae. We will continue with Piazza delle Erbe, the mother church of St. Maria delle Stelle, the Market and the library donated by the writer Bufalino to his native country. We will conclude the tour with the visit of the church of St. Francesco with its beautiful Naselli chapel, the church of St. Biagio, the Aragonese Castle turned into a noble mansion by the Nasellis.

 
Vittoria

Vittoria is the youngest and the most populous municipality in the province of Ragusa; it is the seat of the “Cerasuolo wine Cooperative” and of the biggest fruit and vegetables market in Sicily. The city tour starts from Piazza del Popolo where you can see the eighteenth century church and convent of Madonna delle Grazie together with the wonderful Town Theatre: one of the most beautiful examples of European neo-classicism, according to the American art historian Berenson. We will visit the splendid Mother Church dedicated to St. John the Baptist and the Colonna Enziquez Castle: seat of the “Cerasuolo wine Cooperative”. To conclude our tour I will show you lovely buildings and houses in refined Liberty style.

 
Chiaramonte Gulfi

Chiaramonte’s panoramic terrace, on the north-west of he town just in front the Cappuccini church, is better known as the "balcony of Sicily" because of the splendid view it offers to its visitors. After a pleasant stroll in the 18th century Public Gardens, we will visit the church of St. Maria La Nova, keep on walking along San Paolo and San Giovanni streets and visit the medieval quarter with its beautiful Arch of Annunziata, the only gate survived to the 1693 earthquake. Our visit also includes two museums: the Museum of Oil and the Museum of Sicilian Hand Embroidery. Not very far from the previous museums you will see St. John’s Church. The view is gorgeous! If you drive about three kilometres from the town you will get the Shrine of Gulfi. It was built in the 18th century and holds the beautiful Madonna with the Child inside a superb baroque canopy.

 
The Castle of Donnafugata

The Castle of Donnafugata is a few kilometres from Ragusa. It is surrounded by a huge park where beautiful age-old carob trees can be found. Enchanted by the beauty of the place, the film director Luchino Visconti chose the castle as one of the locations for the famous film "The Leopard". During our visit we will see the richly decorated rooms, the beautiful park, strange and unusual buildings and the famous maze!
